If you are planning to import vehicles into Africa, you have come to the right place.
The Africa Used Vehicle Adviser blog is designed to give practical information to people like you. Whether you are still planning to import a used vehicle for private or commercial purposes, whether you have already tried importing before but are looking for more information or possible alternatives, whether you are just looking for vehicle accessories or replacement parts, this blog can help.
The articles, announcements, opinions and tips posted on this blog are intended for first timers as well as seasoned importers of new and used vehicles. If you are an expert in the used car import/export industry, especially in the African region, and you feel that you have a lot to contribute to our discussions, we would appreciate any insight you can offer and would gladly entertain your comments and suggestions.
Since this blog is a collaboration of industry insiders from AutoTerminal.com Africa, IBC Japan and other global vehicle exporting experts, most of the discussions will be limited to the author’s field of specialization. Thus, for most discussions, Durban and Dar es Salaam (DES) shall be the main points of entry of the vehicles – as these ports are the major gateways to southern, eastern and central Africa.
Although discussions on shipping and transporting vehicles will encompass most African territories, the majority of the discussions will focus around the following priority countries: Angola, Botswana, DR of Congo, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Swaziland, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
Here you will know the reasons why it is very advantageous to use Durban and DES when importing vehicles into the rest of the African continent. You will learn and get updates on new laws, regulations and issues on transporting vehicles between borders and territories.
And not only that, this blog will also regularly post tips, advice and information resources about purchasing, transporting, maintaining and even reselling pre-owned vehicles and replacement parts. Welcome and let’s get started!

Hello,
our names are Annette and Joachim Louis. We are looking for a solution for car registration of a bought car in South Africa.
We are from Germany. Last year we bought a car from other Europeans, but the car – a Landrover defender – was situated in South Africa. We we tried to get a traffic registration we didn`t get it. They said we need avisum about six month. But, we are coming from Germans so we don`t need a visum for the first three month and after this time we only get a visum for another three month from the department of home affairs. So, we have an daress in Irene/Pretoria , we have all the papers but we cannot register the car in our name (at this time our South African friends are the offical owner of the car). The friend want that we change this when we come again in april (11.April). But we have no idea how we can get the traffic registration – it is the only thing what we need to get the registration of the car in our name. Can you help us?? We will pay for the service. Also if it is possible to get the registration in Zambia or Botswana.
Regards Annette and Joachim
